We had six kids and most of the time, one income. Thankfully, I grew up eating good homemade food my mother made. She grew up during the depression and knew a lot of money saving tricks. I learned a lot from her.
My husband got paid once a month and many times those last days were tough. Whether we were eating pea or bean soup and homemade bread, it always got us through. We didn't have big vacations, there were not a lot of expensive activities, and not everyone got new shoes or a haircut at the same time.
It wasn't always easy, but I'm so glad I was able to be home with my kids. The best job in the world! They are all grown up now and most of them have managed to work it out so one parent is home with the kids.
