We lost my dad very suddenly last September. It has been very difficult. He and my mom had been married for 51 years.
He was a much admired man by many. But as his daughter, the thing I grew to admire most was the way he respected my mother and required us to treat her with respect. When we were kids if he wasn't home we would get away with little things sometimes, talking sassy to her. It was a different world when he was in ear shot. Dad let us know in no uncertain terms that she was to be treated with the greatest respect.
We are a very close family. We all live within 30 miles of our parent's home. It is an absolute pleasure to see my siblings take wonderful care and pay close attention to my mother's needs now that she doesn't have my dad to do it for her. He taught us well.
