Parent vs. BFF
12/18/2015

Dear Dr. Laura,

I just saw a quote on your FB page regarding being your kids friend.

All 4 of my children are in their 20's and I still cringe when I hear one of them say that I am their "best friend". I am not a friend...I am the parent! However, my kids DO feel that they can come and talk to me about anything. They KNOW I will give my honest and sometimes not popular opinion.

I am taking this as a compliment; that they respect me as their parent and also like me as a friend. The goal was to raise responsible, reliable and independent adults.

Thanks for all the support in doing what is right!

Lori
