Dear Dr. Laura:
I've been married for 25 years and am a stay-at-home mom to two sons, ages 17 and 22. Our 22 year old recently graduated from college, and our 17 year old is a senior in high school.
The 17 year old had to give a speech a few weeks ago in front of the entire student body - this is a graduation requirement for his school. Typically, the seniors share experiences that have impacted their lives. Our son said some wonderful things about our family, but then said "my mom, who is by far the smartest person I know, could have been anything she wanted to be, but she chose to be my mom, and for that, I will be forever grateful."
Wow. In that moment, everything I have done as a mother all came together for me. Our boys have always shown respect, gratitude and love, but there was something about hearing those words said aloud that really stuck with me. Thank you for having been such a guiding force for me.
Susan
