Guilt vs. Shame
03/28/2013
Great topic on "Guilt Gone Awry"

For me, it's important to differentiate between Guilt and Shame. Guilt is healthy, and says "I did something bad." Shame is toxic, and says, "I AM bad." For many of us who try to overcompensate, shame is running our lives.

The best way to expose shame and let it go, is to find the roots. Who first told me I was bad? Challenge those old family systems and root beliefs in a good 12-step group and with trusted friends or a therapist.

My life has been utterly transformed as I finally learn to release shame.

Thanks for letting me share. I respect and appreciate you, Dr. Laura, and I REALLY miss hearing you on the radio.
