February 18, 2016Worth Standing Up For
I've never stood up for myself, until yesterday. I stood up to my parents and set clear boundaries. I even told my Mom that her bahavior is hurtful. They were shocked at my boldness.
When I got off the phone a part of me felt like I was going to throw up. The other part of me felt like I earned a piece of my self esteem. My strong, supportive husband was next to me the whole time, reassuring me that I was worth sticking up for. Even though I should expect nothing to change, he was the most proud of me that he has ever been in all our time together; because I showed some guts and finally put myself and my family first.
He told me that I shouldn't feel guilt for having my own life and expecting others treat me with kindness. Thank you Dr. Laura, for being my biggest support and role model. Because of you, I'm going to do this motherhood thing right...the first time. I now realize there are no do-overs.
