The Ultimate Reward For My Choice

My husband and I designed our lives so that I could be a full-time mom, and my son's comments recently brought me to tears.  He is in kindergarten, so he's meeting kids and making new friends.  We were leaving a store the other day when he said "Mom, it's really sad because some of the kids in my class have moms who always work.  That's sad because their moms don't take care of them.  I don't know who takes care of them.  Thanks, Mom, for taking care of me."

Those words were the ultimate reward and recognition for my choice in life.  Thank you, Dr. Laura, for giving me the strength to know I am doing the right thing when so many think otherwise.  It IS sad to hear moms saying they missed their children's first steps or first words but justify it because everyone else in their peer group missed them too.   They say they feel "guilty" about their choice, but they keep doing it anyway.  Just because everyone else is doing it doesn't make it right.
