March 9, 2015He Opened My Eyes
I had gone out with my husband a few times and was speaking to him on almost a daily basis. I was legally divorced for a year. It was tax season and I had mentioned to him I was meeting my ex-husband to do his taxes. He did not get angry; he asked if my ex and I were filing a joint return. My answer was no. He calmly said "Well, it appears you need to figure out what it is that you want. It seems you are not through with your relationship with your ex. When you decide you're done with him, call me." That took me back.
After catching my breath, I realized what I was doing. I called my ex, told him I was not doing his taxes, and to no longer contact me. I then called my now-husband, thanked him for opening my eyes, and then apologized for leading him on. It has been seven years since then. It took me five years to learn to love a true man: honest, straight-shooting, fearless, supporting and loving and we have married two years. After taking the time to learn to admire, respect and love, I am a truly happy wife.
